African Dance: you will learn specific traditional dances, including how dance movements relate to drum language. No prior experience necessary. Classes accompanied by live drumming.  Wear loose comfortable clothing as you will get warm (ie vest top with leggings or tracksuit bottoms, ladies may want to wear sarong/wrapper over leggings) and we dance in bare feet.   NB:   some African dance movements are energetic, therefore this course is not suitable for anyone with asthma and/or other respiratory ailments.  Also unsuitable for those suffering back, joint or any other mobility ailments which may hinder movement, or cause you pain. Before taking this course you are advised to see your GP for a health assessment, especially if you have not exercised for a while.

African Drumming: Beginners course will cover how to play your drum, including hand placements and getting different tones from your drum. You will learn specific rhythms, no previous experience required. Intermediate course is faster paced, students will need to have played African drums/practised fairly regularly. This course will enhance playing skills, and focus on more challenging rhythms. Drum provided for use on courses if you don't have your own, although you are advised to purchase your own drum eventually so you can practice further at home. See your tutor if you'd like to purchase a drum.

Childrens Drumming
: This is an introduction to African drumming. Children are taught the basics of playing an African drum, and progress to learning simple and authentic rhythms together.

NB: Our courses are not Teacher Training, or INSET courses. If you are interested in courses geared towards those wanting to teach African music or dance, please telephone or email for information.

No audio or visual recording of  classes/tutors permitted under any circumstances
